KATHMANDU: The Nepal Socialist Party has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, demanding the formation of the Budhi Gandaki Corridor Development Authority to complete the Budhigandaki Corridor Multipurpose Project.

Former Prime Minister and party chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai handed over the memorandum to Prime Minister Dahal at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday.

The memorandum calls for the dissolution of the current weak structure of the project, which functions as a subsidiary company under the Electricity Authority.

Dr. Bhattarai emphasized the need for an empowered and well-resourced Budhi Gandaki Corridor Development Authority to be established immediately.

The memorandum also demands that the overall development of the Budhi Gandaki Corridor be accelerated through the newly proposed authority.

It calls for the prompt addressing of the legitimate demands of the project-affected citizens.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Bhattarai said, “The current subsidiary company under the Electricity Authority cannot accomplish this project. This approach suggests a lack of commitment to completing the project and raises suspicions of deliberate delays or downgrading it to a smaller hydroelectric project. We believe this is the direction it is heading, which is why we have raised this issue seriously.”

The former Prime Minister warned that if their demands are not met by September 16, they will start a strong movement from September 17.
