KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Pradeep Poudel criticized the government by stating that the failure of 52 percent of students in the SEE examination reflects the government’s failure.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Friday, lawmaker Poudel highlighted the government’s shortcomings, as evidenced by the SEE results.

“The pass-fail system was replaced with a grading system to categorize all students within it. Despite practicing this system for a few years, it did not maintain educational quality. This year, a pass-fail system was reintroduced under the grading and non-grading categories,” he said, adding, “In this system, 52 percent of students did not fall within the grading criteria. If 52 percent of students failed, did the students fail or did the government fail?”

Poudel asserted that the government has no right to deem 282,313 students as unqualified.

“Can the government declare, ‘You are unqualified, you cannot succeed through education, and you have no potential for higher education’? Does the government have the authority to declare students unqualified?” he asked.

Poudel criticized the education system for not enabling students to score even 35 marks in a subject after 10 years of study.
