KATHMANDU: During the ‘Zero Hour’ of the National Assembly meeting today, lawmakers urged the government to simplify the process for obtaining citizenship certificates in the name of the mother.

Upper house lawmakers expressed concerns that it is still challenging to acquire citizenship in the mother’s name and emphasized the importance of establishing women’s rights in parental property and family lineage.

Lawmaker Ganga Kumari Belbase specifically called for easing this process.

Taraman Sunar highlighted the difficulties senior citizens face in accessing government services, such as the social security allowance, due to the cumbersome requirement of the National Identity Card.

Tulasa Kumari Dahal called on the government to provide health services to the senior citizens residing at the Janaki Old-age Home, noting the lack of such support.

Bhagawati Neupane pointed out that although traffic lights are installed in Kathmandu, they are not functioning well and urged the government to address this issue urgently.

Maya Prasad Sharma emphasized the need for timely rescue operations for people injured in landslides and floods and urged the government to take necessary steps to minimize the growing human-wildlife conflict.

Sharada Devi Bhatta and Sumitra BC called for the establishment of a robust disaster preparedness and response system, drawing attention to the loss of life and property with the onset of the monsoon.
