KATHMANDU: The government on Friday recommended ambassadors for eight countries.

This decision, based on the political considerations of the ruling coalition leaders, was formally made during the Cabinet meeting held on Friday.

With this decision, the government still needs to appoint ambassadors for three more countries.

Among those recommended on Friday, five represent CPN-UML, two represent Janata Samajbadi Party, and one represents CPN (Maoist Centre).

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is now tasked with selecting two ambassadors and has formed a three-member committee to pick the names.

The committee consists of Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam, and Shishir Khanal.

According to party sources, the committee has prepared a Terms of Reference (ToR) to select suitable candidates for the positions.

Of the 11 vacant posts, the government now requires ambassadors for Qatar, Israel, and Portugal.

Former Chief Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi has been recommended as the ambassador to India. Regmi previously served as the ambassador to the United Kingdom.
