Production and employment are govt priorities: DPM Shrestha



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha emphasized the government’s commitment to increasing production and creating jobs through intensified socioeconomic transformation.

Addressing the ‘Youth Leadership Summit-2024,’ organized jointly by the National Youth Council and the Federation of Youth Non-Government Association, Nepal, DPM Shrestha highlighted the urgent need to end the compulsion of Nepalis to go abroad to meet basic needs.

He pointed out that the upcoming fiscal year’s budget includes measures to support youth entrepreneurship, increase production, and create employment opportunities.

DPM Shrestha acknowledged the country’s economic struggles following political changes, stressing the importance of learning from past mistakes while not forgetting the country’s proud history.

“We can move forward by correcting our mistakes,” he emphasized.

He called for a shift towards economic prosperity by safeguarding political achievements, stating, “Prosperity is possible only through economic progress.”

Shrestha also underscored the need for ideological and cultural transformation, highlighting the importance of political integrity.

He urged all stakeholders to reform the political culture to strengthen the country’s economy, noting the vital role of youths in fostering a culture of cleanliness and integrity.

Lawmaker Dr. Toshima Karki acknowledged the challenges faced by the country but stressed that these should be transformed into opportunities.

She emphasized the significant role of youths in the country’s advancement and the necessity for youth-friendly policies and environments.

Similarly, the Council’s Vice Chair, Surendra Basnet, stated that the Council is working to guide youths towards entrepreneurship and self-employment through skill and capacity development.
