KATHMANDU: Independent lawmaker Dr. Amresh Kumar Singh has announced his decision to boycott the parliamentary session on the day the budget is passed.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, he accused the budget of being allocated primarily to the home districts of leaders from major political parties.

Dr. Singh declared his intention to boycott the session on the day the budget is passed in protest.

Stating that the Prime Minister should be accountable to Parliament, Singh called on the Speaker to issue a ruling requiring the Prime Minister to respond to the discrimination in the budget.

“If the budget system is controlled by the ministers and the Prime Minister, I demand a ruling from the Speaker that next year’s budget should not be presented or passed in Parliament. Let the same cabinet pass it. If there is no ruling for the Prime Minister, I will boycott the budget and the voting session,” he said.

Independent lawmaker Singh pointed out that a significant portion of the budget has been allocated to the districts of the Prime Minister, ministers, and leaders of coalition parties.

He mentioned that billions have been allocated to Dhanusha and Jhapa, and the Finance Minister has allocated a large budget to his own area.
