President Paudel meets German President Steinmeier in Berlin, urges removal of EU flight ban on Nepali airlines

President Ramchandra Paudel met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Presidential Palace in Berlin on Monday. President Paudel attended the 112th International Labor Conference and the launch of the Global Coalition for Social Justice in Geneva, Switzerland before he visited Germany. Paudel arrived in Germany on Saturday night at the invitation of President Steinmeier.

Former President Bhandari’s visit to China postponed indefinitely

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s planned visit to China has been postponed indefinitely due to health reasons, sources close to the CPN-UML party revealed. Despite preparations being underway for her visit by mid-July, Bhandari’s trip has been halted for now, the sources informed. This decision comes amid internal disagreements within the UML leadership, including objections raised by party chair KP Oli regarding Bhandari’s proposed visit to China.

Police recover revolver from Chinese national accused of gold smuggling

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), during the ongoing investigation into a major gold smuggling case in its second phase, has recovered a pistol from a Chinese national suspected of involvement in illegal activity.The suspect, identified as Raju Bhote ‘Tasi’ from Chengdu, China, was apprehended by CIB officials. The officials seized a 35mm Mauser pistol from him during the operation.

72,000 Nepalis leave for foreign employment in one month, majority from Dhanusha

In a single month, 72,861 Nepalis left the country for foreign employment, according to the Department of Foreign Employment. In Jestha (May 14 and June 14), a total of 64,886 men and 7,975 women went abroad for work. Dhanusha district topped the list of districts with the highest number of workers going abroad, with 4,248 individuals leaving during this period.

Tanker drivers, NOC reach agreement; fuel transport to resume today

The Nepal Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ Union has decided to call off its strike. The union reached an agreement with the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) following discussions at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies on Monday. The talks, coordinated by Commerce and Supplies Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire, concluded with the formation of a committee to address the union’s demands. This committee has been tasked with studying the issues and submitting a report within 15 days.

PM Dahal optimistic about budget passage from Parliament

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda expressed satisfaction with the budget presented for the upcoming fiscal year, emphasizing its overall favorability. Speaking to reporters at Bharatpur Airport on Monday, PM Dahal asserted that the policy program and budget for the next year are beneficial for both the people and the nation. “I believe this budget will receive approval from the House of Representatives,” he confidently stated.

Chinese national arrested in Kapan with 6 kg gold

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested a Chinese national in Kapan along with approximately 6 kilograms of gold and NPR 4.8 million in cash last night. Details regarding the arrested Chinese citizen have not been disclosed by the CIB, pending further investigation into the weight and origins of the gold. Sources indicate that the detained Chinese was previously wanted by the police for involvement in gold smuggling.

Sandeep notches up 100 wickets in T20 internationals

Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane of the Nepali national cricket team has crossed the milestone of 100 wickets in T20Is. During the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies, he achieved this milestone by taking Ali’s wicket from Bangladesh on the third ball of the 16th over. Sandeep is the second-fastest player in the world to take 100 wickets in T20Is.

Bangladesh qualifies for Super Eights of ICC T20 World Cup by defeating Nepal by 21 runs

In their final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Nepal faced a 21-run defeat against Bangladesh. With this victory, Bangladesh has qualified for the Super Eights of the tournament. Batting first, Bangladesh set a target of 107 runs, scoring 106 runs in 19.3 overs. Nepal’s bowlers, including Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Rohit Kumar Paudel, showcased an impressive performance, each taking two wickets to restrict Bangladesh to a low total.
