KATHMANDU: The lawmakers of the House of Representatives have urged swift action against perpetrators involved in cases of murder, violence, and kidnapping.

Abdul Khan of the Janamat Party raised concerns about the escalating number of criminal incidents in the Terai-Madhesh region.

He emphasized the urgency of holding the culprits accountable within the bounds of the law.

During his allotted time in the meeting, Khan called for measures to ensure peace and order in Terai-Madhesh, where residents are reportedly living in constant fear of violence, terror, and robbery.

“People in Terai-Madhesh are living under the shadow of fear and uncertainty. The security situation has deteriorated significantly. Incidents of robbery are on the rise, and when victims attempt to report these crimes to the police, their complaints are often disregarded,” asserted Khan.

He highlighted the case of Basiran Khatun from Koshi rural municipality-3 in Sunsari district, who was allegedly murdered over dowry issues and later found hanging from a banyan tree near the Koshi River in Hanumannagar, Saptari district.

Khan lamented that due to various pressures, complaints are frequently not registered at local police stations, further exacerbating the plight of victims.

Additionally, he recounted an incident involving two brothers, Tiru Yadav and Ram Kumar Yadav, from Gaidahawa rural municipality-1 in Rupandehi district, who were recently stabbed in a local shop.

One of the brothers sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

Furthermore, Khan cited the case of Tara Khatik, a 30-year-old woman from Gobrepur rural municipality in Bardia district, who was severely assaulted on May 25, leading to her tragic death by suicide later that night.

He criticized the local police for their alleged reluctance to register complaints in all the aforementioned cases.

In response to these troubling developments, Khan called upon the government to take decisive action to restore peace and order and safeguard the lives of citizens.
