Sikkim: CM Prem Singh Tamang celebrates SKM’s overwhelming victory

GANGTOK: The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has held onto power in the Himalayan state.

Party leader and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attributed this sweeping victory to the dedication of SKM workers and the confidence the people have in his administration.

Tamang expressed gratitude to the party members and the populace for their support, emphasizing that the win was due to the hard work of the SKM cadre and the trust built over the past five years.

He remarked that the next five years would be devoted to serving the people of Sikkim to the best of their abilities.

At a gathering in Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, Tamang, who secured victories in both the Rhenock and Soreng-Chakung constituencies, celebrated the triumph.

The SKM’s success surpassed their 2019 performance when they won 17 seats, ousting the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) after over two decades of rule.

In a significant defeat, SDF president and former CM Pawan Chamling lost in both his contested seats.

Tamang’s wife, Krishna Kumari Rai, also won in the Namchi-Singhithang constituency, defeating SDF’s Bimal Rai by over 5,000 votes, with the SKM candidate receiving 7,605 votes against Bimal Rai’s 2,605.

The SKM is set to form its second consecutive government, with contributions from PTI.
