CB Lama accused of over 1.5 billion rupees cooperative fraud, over 900 complaints filed

KATHMANDU: The police made Chandra Bahadur Tamang alias CB Lama, allegedly involved in a cooperative-related fraud worth 1.5 billion public in Kathmandu on Sunday.

During a press conference held at the Kathmandu Valley Crime Division on Sunday, SSP Sanu Ram Bhattarai disclosed that Lama has been arrested on charges of defrauding over 1.5 billion rupees from the depositors of Pashupati Saving and Credit Cooperative and its subsidiary operations.

Bhattarai informed that complaints have been lodged against Lama by 852 individuals from Kantipur Saving and Credit Cooperative and 54 individuals from Pashupati Saving and Credit Cooperative.

According to the police report, Lama had been on the run since the case was registered at the New Baneshwor Police Office three months ago. He was apprehended on May 31 from Chitwan.

Upon his public arrest, Lama has alleged that false accusations have been made against him, and he demands fair justice from the court.

He had resigned from the Chair of Kantipur Cooperatives after the implementation of a rule prohibiting a single individual from serving as the chairman of two cooperatives.

Lama served as the chairman of Kantipur Cooperative from 2055 BS to 2076.

Police have revealed ongoing investigations into various banking irregularities involving Lama in several police units.

He has been found to be absconding in three other cases as well.
