Storm destroys around 333 structures in Tanahu



DUMRE: A storm accompanied by rain and hailstones caused significant property damage in Tanahu district on Thursday evening, destroying approximately 333 structures.

Fortunately, no human casualties were reported.

Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam stated that the storm destroyed houses, huts, school buildings, and other structures in various parts of the district.

Although the exact details of the damage are still being collected, it is clear that the storm caused widespread physical damage.

Police have already reached some of the affected sites to gather detailed information.

The storm impacted all levels of the district, with Byas municipality being the most affected.

A house in Byas municipality-8 also sustained damage due to lightning.

To assist the victims, arrangements have been made to provide materials such as tarpaulins, in coordination with the Red Cross, Tanahu, according to Gautam.

Additionally, the storm damaged vegetables and fruits in the region.

Power supply has been disrupted in several areas after electric poles were knocked down by the storm, said Bijay Raj Regmi, the Chief of the Power Distribution Centre, Tanahu.

Efforts are underway to restore the power supply. The power outage affected dozens of places, including Baireni of Byas municipality-10, Kalesti of ward no-7, Polang of ward no-11, and Chhirkan of ward no-12.

The Khadgadevi Temple in Bandipur rural municipality also collapsed due to the rain and storm.
