Cricketer Lamichhane facing US visa interview today

KATHMANDU: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is scheduled for a visa interview at the Embassy of the United States of America today for the second time.

His previous visa application was rejected by the US.

Lamichhane plans to travel to the USA and the West Indies to participate in the T-20 World Cup.

Other members of the Nepali team have already flown abroad for the matches.

Following efforts initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to address the visa rejection, the US Embassy in Kathmandu has summoned Lamichhane for another interview.

Supporters and some political parties held protests in Kathmandu against the US decision to deny Lamichhane a visa, which prevented him from joining the Nepali team for the World Cup.

Reports indicate that Lamichhane will leave for the USA tonight if granted a visa.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) revoked the suspension of Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane after the Patan High Court acquitted him in a rape case.
