KATHMANDU: In a new initiative, traffic police have begun mobilizing those who defy traffic rules as volunteers on the roads.

This group includes individuals caught driving under the influence.

As per the plan of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, these individuals were deployed to assist traffic police at various intersections in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Earlier, on Republic Day, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane announced in a social media post that female traffic personnel would not be required to work in the field during their menstrual period.

According to Home Minister Lamichhane, individuals found violating traffic regulations, including those caught drunk driving, are to be deployed on the roads as volunteers during these periods.
