Govt unveils annual budget of Rs 1.86 trillion for FY 2024/025

The government unveiled a budget of Rs 1 trillion 860 billion and 300 million for the coming fiscal year 2024/025. Finance Minister Barshaman Pun presented the budget through his budget speech on Tuesday at the joint session of the Federal Parliament. According to the budget, Rs 1 trillion 140 billion 660 million has been allocated for recurring expenditure, Rs 352 billion 350 million for capital expenditure and Rs 367 billion 180 million for fiscal management.

Nothing encouraging in Budget 2081/82: NC

The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has said that the budget presented by the government for the next fiscal year 2081/82 does not have anything that would make the common people enthusiastic. In response to queries from journalists about the budget presented today, NC spokesperson and former finance minister Dr. Prakasharan Mahat said that it was unlikely that the budget statement would be implemented. He said that the budget lacks prioritization of matters with no action plan to end the long-standing anomalies and aberrations.

Seven-member parliamentary committee formed to investigate cooperative fraud

The government has formed a seven-member parliamentary probe committee to investigate the cooperative fraud case. According to the Parliament Secretariat, a seven-member special parliamentary committee for the investigation of cooperatives-related fraud has been formed on Tuesday. The committee includes two members each from the main opposition Nepali Congress and the ruling CPN-UML, and one member each from the CPN-Maoist Center, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

KMG Chairman Sirohiya airlifted to Kathmandu’s Mediciti Hospital

Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), has been airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment from Janakpur. His health took a downturn, necessitating an airlift via Simrik Air helicopter from Dhanusha to Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur on Tuesday afternoon. Sirohiya, who has been in police custody since May 21, was flown to the hospital, departing from the previous transportation by car from Kathmandu to Janakpur when he was initially arrested.

Govt committed to concluding remaining tasks of transitional justice: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that the government is committed to taking the peace process to a logical conclusion and completing the remaining tasks of transitional justice. At a special function organized at the Nepal Army Pavilion in Tundikhel today on the occasion of Republic Day, Prime Minister Dahal mentioned that most activities related to conflict management and peace establishment have been completed to address the sentiments of the constitution.

SC hearing on petition against Home Minister Lamichhane and AG Pokharel tomorrow

A hearing on the petition to annul the letter from the Attorney General’s Office, which stated that there were no complaints or prosecutions against Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane regarding cooperative fraud, is scheduled at the Supreme Court for tomorrow (Wednesday). SC joint spokesperson, Govinda Ghimire, informed that the case has been scheduled for Wednesday after the petition was registered at the Supreme Court.

Ncell seeks 5-year renewal, urges installment plan for Rs 4 billion

Nepal’s private telecom giant, Ncell, has applied for a 5-year renewal of its operating license. The company, established in 2004, faces the expiration of its current license in August. In a bid to manage its financial obligations, Ncell has proposed a staggered payment plan to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority. The renewal fee amounts to Rs 20 billion for the upcoming 5-year period.
