Sirohiya to be remanded in custody for three more days

The Dhanusha District Court has granted permission to remand Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), in custody for an additional three days. Sirohiya was initially arrested on Tuesday in connection with a dual citizenship issue. Following his arrest, he was detained at the Dhanusha Police Office, with the court allowing the police to remand him in custody for three days starting Wednesday.

‘KP1’ and ‘KP2’: New sub-variants of Omicron detected in Nepal

It has been confirmed that ‘KP1’ and ‘KP2’ are new sub-variants of Omicron found in Nepal, signaling another development in the ongoing battle against Covid-19. Genome sequencing conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory under the Ministry of Health and Population has revealed these new variants. Simultaneously, the presence of a new variant of Covid-19 within Nepal has been verified.

NC seeks PM’s response to allegations made by Home Minister Lamichhane

The Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to address the allegations made by Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane during a recent parliament meeting. In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Friday, the NC drew PM Dahal’s attention to the accusations made by Home Minister Lamichhane against the party and its lawmakers.

Key leaders meet at Baluwatar to resolve parliamentary deadlock

Key leaders of the political parties are meeting at Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s official residence in Baluwatar in an effort to end the ongoing parliamentary impasse. PM Dahal summoned the leaders for this meeting following an earlier discussion with President Ram Chandra Poudel on Friday morning. The current meeting at Baluwatar includes PM Dahal, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, and UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaual.

NC, RPP lawmakers’ absence leads to postponement of Gandaki PA Meeting

The Gandaki Province Assembly (PA) meeting, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed till 1 pm on May 28 due to the absence of Nepali Congress (NC) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmakers. As the matter regarding the Gandaki Provincial Government is sub judice in the Supreme Court, the main opposition party NC had previously boycotted the parliamentary session. Today’s meeting saw the absence of two RPP lawmakers as well.

Security Printing Press scam: Engineer Pokharel, convicted in corruption, found dead

Engineer Navinkumar Pokharel, convicted in the corruption scam of the Security Printing Press (SPP), has been found dead under mysterious circumstances. Just three days ago, he was declared guilty in the Special Court for his involvement in the case. Pokharel, convicted together with then Director General of SPP Bikal Paudel, was discovered dead at his own Bhaktapur based residence at around 9 am on Friday morning.

DoMLI recommends Rs 33 billion misappropriation case against Shivashikhar Cooperative’s Director Sharma

The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) has prepared a report recommending allegations of Rs 33 billion misappropriation against Kedarnath Sharma, the director of Shivashikhar Cooperative. According to sources, the report, along with recommendations for prosecution, has been finalized. With recommendations for filing allegations of money laundering, the Department will present the investigation report at the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bhaktapur. The Attorney’s Office will then file the case at the Bhaktapur District Court.
