DAMAK: KP Oli, Chairman of CPN-UML, dispelled any notion connecting the arrest of Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group, to news coverage involving Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Addressing a gathering in Damak, Jhapa, Oli remarked, “There’s been unwarranted speculation. I find it unnecessary and potentially inflammatory.”

Oli clarified that Sirohiya’s arrest doesn’t entail prolonged detention as some portray.

“There’s no journalistic charge here. Sirohiya’s case stands on its own merits, prompting government scrutiny,” he added.

He underscored that one individual’s arrest on criminal grounds shouldn’t be construed as a threat to democracy.

“When political figures face arrest, there’s no uproar. Why then is democracy supposedly at risk with a media figure’s arrest?” Oli questioned.
