KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is set to hear the writ petition filed by Chairman Upendra Yadav against the split of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal.

This comes after the SC issued a short-term interim order in response to Yadav’s petition.

The single bench, presided over by Judge Binod Sharma, has summoned both parties for discussions today, thereby postponing all proceedings related to the party’s split.

Chairman Yadav filed the petition challenging the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the faction led by Ashok Rai as a separate entity.

Yadav has also requested the court to nullify the election body’s ruling.

On May 5, senior leader Ashok Rai and seven other JSP Nepal lawmakers formed a new party named Janata Samajbadi Party while Chairman Yadav was attending a United Nations event in the United States of America.
