Task force to draft TOR for cooperatives fraud probe today

KATHMANDU: The task force to draft the Terms of Reference (TOR) for forming a parliamentary committee to investigate the cooperative fraud issue is beginning its work today.

On Saturday, the political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Maoist Center, and Rastriya Swatantra Party—agreed to form this task force.

The task force, led by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Padam Giri, includes lawmaker Shishir Khanal from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Jeevan Pariyar from Nepali Congress, and Mahesh Bartaula from CPN-UML.

A consensus was reached among the leaders with some amendments to the earlier draft agreement.

With Saturday’s agreement, it has been learned that the Nepali Congress, which was obstructing the House of Representatives (HoR), will not obstruct today’s meeting of the HoR, scheduled for 11 am.

The main opposition party, the Nepali Congress, had been obstructing Parliament for a long time.

The agreement will facilitate the endorsing of the policies and programs presented by the President to both Houses of Parliament last week, the vote of confidence to be taken by the Prime Minister on Friday (Monday), and the presentation of the budget.

The Nepali Congress had been demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee, alleging Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in the cooperative issue.
