KATHMANDU: Chief Minister Dirgha Sodari of Sudurpaschim Province has garnered a vote of confidence from the state assembly.
The endorsement, granted during a Thursday meeting at noon, saw 28 MPs backing Sodari’s leadership.
Speaker Bhim Bhandari confirmed the participation of 28 parliamentarians in the assembly, all of whom voted in favor of the confidence motion, with no opposition or neutrality.
Among the supporters were 10 Maoist Center members, 11 from CPN-UML, 4 from Unified Samajwadi Party, 2 from Nagarik Unmukti, and an independent parliamentarian.
Prior to the vote, Chief Minister Sodari presented the proposal for confidence amidst protestations regarding the constitutionality of his appointment.
Despite initial dissent from five Nepali Congress and Nagarik Unmukti lawmakers, the assembly proceeded with the confidence motion.
In response to the uproar, Speaker Bhim Bhandari mediated, allowing time for divisions to be made between supporters and dissenters.
Subsequently, members from Nepali Congress, Nagaril Unmukti, and one Rastriya Prajatantra Party opted to boycott the session.
