KATHMANDU: Adverse weather conditions have disrupted the expedition to Mt Everest, the world’s tallest peak, for the past two days.

Rakesh Gurung, Director of the Department of Tourism, reported that no climbers have been able to reach the summit of Everest since Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions affecting the upper part of camp IV.

In the midst of this, efforts to locate two missing Mongolian climbers are ongoing.

‘ATK Expedition’ Pvt Ltd has dispatched two Sherpa guides to search and rescue the missing climbers, identified as 53-year-old Usukhjargal Tsedendamba and 31-year-old Purevsuren Lkhagvajav.

They went missing while attempting to scale Everest at 8:45 am on May 13, according to the Mountaineering Branch of the Department.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, over 70 climbers have successfully ascended Everest since the beginning of the new spring climbing season on May 10.

Notably, Kami Rita Sherpa has surpassed his own record by climbing the peak 28 times during this season.

This season, a total of 414 mountaineers, comprising 75 women and 339 men from 41 mountaineering expedition groups, have obtained permission to climb Everest.
