Koshi Chief Minister Karki seeking vote of confidence today

BIRATNAGAR: The newly-appointed Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Hikmat Karki, is seeking a vote of confidence, with preparations underway to table the proposal during the provincial assembly meeting at 11 am today.

Ambar Bahadur Bista, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, confirmed that the vote of confidence for Chief Minister Karki is listed on today’s agenda.

During a meeting on Sunday to draft the agenda, the Nepali Congress, the main opposition party, urged against an immediate vote of confidence citing an ongoing court case regarding the Koshi government.

Nevertheless, the ruling parties, CPN-UML and the Maoist Center, insisted on pushing forward with the confidence vote agenda.

Prior to the assembly meeting, there will be another session of the working arrangement consultation committee.

Karki assumed office as Chief Minister for the third time on May 9.
