Finance Minister Pun assures transformative fiscal budget

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has unveiled plans for an upcoming budget aimed at revolutionizing Nepal’s economic landscape.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Thursday, Minister Pun emphasized a departure from punitive measures, instead focusing on transformative strategies for the next fiscal year.

Minister Pun articulated a commitment to revitalizing the economy by bolstering private sector confidence and implementing progressive policies across various sectors.

He assured stakeholders of the government’s dedication to safeguarding private sector investments and property rights, promising coherence and consistency in policy formulation.

Addressing concerns about potential tax adjustments, Minister Pun affirmed that any changes would be meticulously assessed for necessity and rationale.

“We do not alter tax rates under external pressures. Our fiscal decisions are grounded in thorough deliberation and justification,” he emphasized.

While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Minister Pun expressed optimism about Nepal’s economic prospects, setting a target of seven and a half percent growth for the upcoming fiscal year.

“While a double-digit growth may elude us, we remain steadfast in our pursuit of sustainable economic expansion,” he stated.
