Ministry Reports: Nearly 80% of women still face violence in Nepal

KATHMANDU: According to the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, approximately 79.8% of women in Nepal continue to endure violence.

During the launch of the book ‘Gender Equality in Nepal: Facts and Figures’ by the Ministry, Minister Bhagwati Chaudhary emphasized that despite some progress over the past decade, challenges persist for women and children in the country.

The book, which compiles findings from various studies, aims to provide valuable insights for stakeholders.

However, Minister Chaudhary expressed the need for more comprehensive data analysis, covering all 753 municipalities.

She lamented the alarming statistic of 79.8% of women still facing violence, emphasizing the discrepancy in women’s political representation.

Although women constitute 33% of political participation, only 5.5% are elected.

This disparity is particularly evident in competitive seats compared to reserved ones.
