Ex-FinMin applauds govt’s economic initiatives amidst political stability efforts

KATHMANDU: Former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has commended the government’s endeavors towards economic prosperity by fostering a stable political environment.

Speaking at an economic discussion organized by lokantar.com on its 8th anniversary, CPN (UML) Vice-Chairperson Poudel emphasized that his party had taken the lead in forming a new ruling coalition to drive economic progress.

“The current government is moving towards stability.

However, there have been attempts to disrupt the coalition,” he remarked, praising the government’s initiatives to create an investment-friendly climate, facilitate job creation, and bolster the production sector.

In contrast, Nepali Congress leader and former minister Dr. Minendra Rijal expressed regret over the government’s frequent changes for political gains, citing it as detrimental to economic development.

He urged the government to prioritize economic prosperity over power interests, emphasizing the need for tangible demonstrations of an investment-friendly environment.

Adding to the discussion, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Chair Rajesh Kumar Agrawal acknowledged the government’s efforts to foster a positive investment climate through initiatives like investment conferences.

However, he stressed the importance of amending laws and increasing capital expenditure to truly enhance economic growth.
