Swarnalaxmi cooperative’s depositors file case demanding refund



KATHMANDU: Depositors of Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative have gathered at Kathmandu Metropolitan Circle, Kalimati, demanding the return of their deposited funds.

Suman Khanal, Chairman of the Victims’ Struggle Committee of Swarnalaxmi Multipurpose Cooperative, stated that 528 depositors assembled at the Kalimati Police office to demand the return of their savings, amounting to approximately 1 billion rupees.

“In the initial phase, around 528 depositors demanded the return of approximately 1 billion rupees. We have informed other depositors as well. We will include them once they arrive,” Khanal said.

It is reported that Swarnalaxmi Cooperative’s operator, Galaxy Television Chairman GB Rai’s group, has allegedly misappropriated over 3 billion rupees belonging to more than 13,000 depositors of the Cooperative.

As per the information provided by the Cooperative’s management, approximately 2.74 billion rupees is yet to be refunded.

Failing to receive their refunds, the depositors have resorted to protesting at the police station.
