Qatar Emir concludes state visit to Nepal, returns home



KATHMANDU: Concluding his two-day state visit to Nepal, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar returned home on Wednesday afternoon.

President Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Ram Shaya Prasad Yadav, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha bid farewell to Emir Al Thani at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The Emir’s visit, initiated upon the invitation of President Ram Chandra Paudel, witnessed significant diplomatic engagements and the signing of eight bilateral agreements between Qatar and Nepal.

During his stay, Emir Al Thani held meetings with President Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, underscoring the commitment to bolstering bilateral relations between the two countries.

Key agreements included bilateral support pacts between Nepal and Qatar News Agency, as well as between the Office of the Attorney General and the Institute of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, agreements facilitating educational and cultural exchanges were inked, alongside two agreements between the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Emir Al Thani’s visit marks a significant milestone, highlighting the strengthening of bilateral ties between Nepal and Qatar.

Notably, this visit signifies the first high-level delegation from the Gulf nations to Nepal.

The fruitful discussions and agreements forged during Emir Al Thani’s visit are expected to contribute positively to the continued cooperation and friendship between Nepal and Qatar.
