KATHMANDU: Ranjita Shrestha, Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has asserted that Resham Chaudhary, who was convicted in the Tikapur murder case, does not meet the eligibility criteria to be a member of the party.
Chaudhary filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court after the Election Commission refused to recognize him as the party’s Chairperson.
During the court hearing on the case, the apex court sought responses from the defendants.
In compliance with the court’s directive, Shrestha stated that Chaudhary is ineligible to be a member of the party under the existing statute due to his conviction in the murder case.
Additionally, Shrestha urged the court to dismiss Chaudhary’s petition.
Chaudhary was released from custody after receiving an amnesty from the president.
