Nagarik Unmukti’s Kailash Chaudhary also claims majority support to become Sudurpaschim CM



KATHMANDU: Nagarik Unmukti Party’s Kailash Chaudhary has also claimed the support of the majority required to be the Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim province.

Kailash belongs to Nagarik Unmukti  Chair Ranjita Shrestha faction in the Sudurpaschim province.

He has claimed the support of the CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Center, Nagarik Unmukti Party and one independent lawmaker’s support.

There are 10 lawmakers from UML, 11 (including Speaker) from Maoist Center in the province assembly.

Earleir, Laxman Kishor Chaudhary, representing the Nagarik Unmukti Party, formally declared his candidacy for the position of Chief Minister (CM) of Sudurpaschim Province on Sunday.

Chaudhary claimed that his bid for the CM post garnered support from a coalition comprising 18 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, six from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and four from the CPN-Unified Socialist.

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, which consists of 53 members, currently has 51 MPs. To secure the CM position, a minimum of 26 votes is required.

At present, the coalition boasts 31 MPs, comprising 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, six from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and four from the Unified Socialist Party.

Additionally, the assembly includes 18 members from the Nepali Congress, along with representatives from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and an independent MP.
