Nepal elects to bat first against Qatar in ACC Premier Cup clash



KATHMANDU: In their second match of the ACC Premier Cup, Nepal has chosen to bat first after winning the toss against Qatar.

Following their triumphant five-wicket victory over Malaysia on Friday, Nepal faces Qatar in Oman.

Having secured two points in Group A with their win against Malaysia, Nepal is eager to continue their winning momentum.

In their previous match, Nepal successfully chased down Malaysia’s target of 144 runs in 19.2 overs.

Notably, Captain Rohit Paudel achieved a milestone, becoming the third Nepali cricketer to score 1000 runs in T20I cricket.

Against Malaysia, key contributions came from Kushal Bhurtel, Aarif Sheikh, Gulshan Jha, Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Kushal Malla.

Meanwhile, for Malaysia, Virandeep Singh led the batting with 68 runs, supported by Sharvin Muniandy and Muhammad Amir.

Looking ahead, Nepal is scheduled to play against Hong Kong on April 15 and Saudi Arabia on April 17.

The competition format, comprising Group A and Group B teams, will see the top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, with the final match set for April 21.

Moreover, the victor of the ACC Premier Cup will secure qualification for the T20 Asia Cup 2025, adding further significance to the tournament.
