SC issues show cause order for non-recognition of Resham Chaudhary as Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show cause order for the non-recognition of Resham Chaudhary as the chairman of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

A single bench of Justice Mahesh Sharma Poudel has directed both parties to appear before the Court before deciding on whether to issue an interim order for the hearing of the case.

“The interim order regarding the plaintiff’s petition necessitates discussion with both parties,” the order stated. “Therefore, it is deemed appropriate to summon both parties to Court on April 12 and issue the requisite order.”

Resham was elected chairman in the inaugural general convention held on January 12. Subsequently, he forwarded a letter to the Election Commission (EC) on February 12 to update the Central Committee elected during the convention.

However, the EC did not acknowledge Resham as the chairman and authorized then Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary to continue her duties.

The SC has also directed the submission of documents dated May 16, 2023, including the evidence considered while delivering the verdict against Chaudhary regarding her alleged involvement in the Tikapur massacre.
