KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden, has declared that his party will demand the resignation of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane for authorizing the use of force against RPP supporters in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Lingden stated that the injuries sustained by senior leader Buddhiman Tamang during the use of force compelled the RPP to push for the resignation of the Home Minister.
He highlighted that despite the RPP’s efforts to conduct a peaceful demonstration, the police resorted to repression.
A confrontation erupted when the police intervened as the RPP procession moved from Bhrikutimandap towards Singhadbar via Bhadrakali.
Police dispersed the protesters using water cannons and tear gas to enforce the prohibited area.
Subsequently, the police redirected the RPP protestors, who had reached Singha Darbar, back towards Bhadrakali.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, over 4,000 policemen have been deployed in the Kathmandu Valley to enforce the prohibition order during the demonstration and uphold peace and security.
