‘Cloth Bank’ launches in Chandragiri Municipality

KATHMANDU: A ‘cloth bank’ has been inaugurated in Chandragiri Municipality with financial assistance from the local government.

Located at the main gate of the Municipality, people can now deposit used clothes and bags at the ‘cloth bank’.

These items will then be recycled by the ‘cloth and food bank’.

The recycled clothes and bags will be neatly packaged and displayed at the bank’s showroom, where those in need can obtain them free of charge.

In addition to offering items at the showroom, the cloth bank has also begun distributing clothes and bags directly to the homes of those in need.

Chandragiri Municipality becomes the second local government in the Kathmandu Valley to introduce such a facility.

Mayor Ghanashyam Giri, along with the Municipality’s spokesperson, Ward No. 4 Chairman Krishna Prasad Khadgi, Chief Administrative Officer Hemraj Aryal, and renowned film actor Rajesh Hamal, jointly inaugurated the cloth bank on Sunday.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Giri expressed the Municipality’s commitment to supporting the expansion of the cloth bank service to the ward level, aiming to enhance its reach in the community.

He emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the benefits of the cloth bank.

Actor Hamal, in addition to supporting the cloth bank, announced plans to launch a food bank in the municipality.

He hoped that both initiatives would significantly benefit those in need.

Kamal GC, chairperson of the Cloth and Food Bank, announced the initiation of a campaign to collect and recycle unused clothes, distributing them to underprivileged individuals.

He mentioned the operation of a recycling factory in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City and collaboration with 160 local units under this initiative.
