Karnali Province calls for political parties to form new government

KATHMANDU: Province Chief Tilak Pariyar of Karnali Province has issued a call to political parties, urging them to stake their claim for the position of Chief Minister within the next seven days.

Following the resignation of Chief Minister Raj Kumar Sharma on Wednesday, the Province Chief has initiated the process for the formation of a new government in accordance with Article 169(1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

As per the constitutional provision, the Chief of Province is tasked with appointing the leader of the parliamentary party with a majority in the Provincial Assembly as the Chief Minister.

Additionally, in scenarios where no party holds a clear majority, the Chief of Province is authorized to appoint a Chief Minister who can command a majority with support from multiple parties in the Provincial Assembly.

The political landscape in Karnali Province is now poised for negotiations and alliances as parties prepare to stake their claims and vie for leadership in the formation of the new government.
