Church Boys to compete against Army in Itahari Gold Cup final on Saturday

SUNSARI: In the ongoing 14th edition of the International Invitation Control Itahari Gold Cup, Church Boys United and departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club will compete for the championship title on Saturday.

Earlier, in the semifinal held at Itahari Stadium, the organizer Rastriya Jagriti Club was defeated by Church Boys United 1-0, confirming latter’s showdown with Army for the title.

Samir Tamang’s goal in the final moments of the match proved decisive for Church Boys.

He scored the crucial goal in the 89th minute of the game.

Tamang was declared the Man of the Match and was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Having been the runners-up in the previous edition, Church Boys United will now face Army in the final on Saturday for the title.

Army, the former champions, secured a victory over Sagarmatha Club in a penalty shootout with a score of 2-1, inching closer to the title.

The champions of the final match will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 million, while the runners-up will be awarded Rs. 500,000.
