SC overturns Parliament Secretariat’s suspension of NC lawmaker Tek Bahadur Gurung

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has revoked the suspension of Nepali Congress MP Tek Bahadur Gurung imposed by the Parliament Secretariat.

Gurung, who represents Manang in the Parliament, was suspended by the Parliament Secretariat on December 27, 2022.

He, along with 14 others, faced charges of abusing authority by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on February 4, 2019.

The Parliament Secretariat suspended him under Section 2 (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059, pending a final verdict.

In light of constitutional amendments to the law, Tek Bahadur Gurung appealed to the Supreme Court on March 5, 2023.

SC ruled in favor of Gurung, granting his writ petition to annul the suspension order.

The division bench comprising Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Binod Sharma issued the order to annul the suspension.

On February 28, 2020, the Special Court found Gurung and nine others guilty of corruption related to the misuse of public property at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
