Nepal faces another defeat to Bahrain in FIFA World Cup-2026 and AFC Asia Cup-2027 qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal endured yet another setback in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup-2026 and AFC Asia Cup-2027, suffering a defeat to Bahrain in the fourth match of the second phase.

In the match held at the Riffa-based National Stadium, Nepal succumbed to Bahrain with a scoreline of 3-0. Strikers Syed Wakar, Abdulla Yusuf, and Komail Al Aswad each contributed a goal, propelling Bahrain to victory.

This marks Nepal’s fourth consecutive defeat in Group ‘H’. Earlier encounters saw Nepal facing a 5-0 defeat to Bahrain on March 21, a 4-0 loss to UAE, and a 2-0 defeat to Yemen.

With no points garnered in four matches, Nepal currently occupies the bottom position in the group standings. UAE leads the group with 12 points, followed by Bahrain in second place with nine points, and Yemen in third with three points.

In the upcoming matches, Nepal is set to face UAE and Yemen, aiming to salvage points in a bid to improve their position in the qualifiers.
