KATHMANDU: The 59th Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day was commemorated with an event held in Kathmandu on Friday.

The celebration, hosted by the Embassy of India, was attended by approximately 300 individuals, including Members of Parliament, senior Government officials of Nepal, ITEC alumni, and distinguished Nepali alumni of academic institutions in India.

Launched in 1964, the ITEC programme leverages India’s extensive network of governance and development expertise by offering short and long-term capacity-building programmes in higher educational institutions and training facilities in India, as well as in over 160 partner countries, including Nepal.

During the ITEC Day celebration, Member of Parliament and Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, an alumnus of AIIMS, shared his experiences and perspectives on advancing India-Nepal cooperation in the development and education sectors.

Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, highlighted the significance of the 59th ITEC Day in recognizing the progress made in the India-Nepal capacity-building partnership. He emphasized plans to offer more customized courses for administrators, railway officials, agriculturists, and parliamentary officials under ITEC, tailored to the interests of stakeholders in Nepal.

The event featured an enchanting Odissi dance performance by a troupe from India, led by renowned artist Kakali Bose.

According to a statement released by the Embassy, during the year 2023-2024, a total of 444 professionals from Nepal underwent training in various courses at prominent institutes in India. Over the past 15 years, more than 2,000 officials from Nepal have received training under ITEC.
