Nepal’s dream for playing ICC World T20 shatters



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s dream for playing in the 2020 ICC World T20 has shattered as it failed to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Nepal failed to earn its berth for the global qualifiers as host Singapore thrashed Nepal by 82 runs in ICC T20 World Cup Asia Finals held on Sunday. Nepal finished second in the competition as Singapore qualified for the qualifiers securing the first position in the points table.

Now, Singapore will join 13 other teams to play in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates in October and November 2019, with the chance to qualify for the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup in Australia.

Chasing 192-run target set by Singapore Nepal managed to get only 109 runs on the board losing all wickets in 15 overs. Gyanendra Malla top-scored for Nepal at 39 runs. For Singapore, Selladore Vijayakumar took four wickets as Vinoth Baskaran sent two Nepali batsmen back to the pavilion.

Earlier, Tim David top-scored at 77 runs off 43 balls hitting eight fours and three sixes to take Singapore to 191 runs in stipulated 20 overs losing six wickets. Rohan Rangarajan and Manpreet Singh of Singapore contributed 49 and 42 runs respectively for their team.

Abinash Bohara of Nepal grabbed four wickets in his kitty as Karan KC took two wickets.
