Shiva Shankar, suspect in nurse’s murder, found dead

BIRATNAGAR: The suspect in the murder case of 23-year-old staff nurse Chandrika Kumari Das, employed at Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar-4, has been discovered deceased in a hotel in Biratnagar.

Morang Police Chief SP Navaraj Karki stated that 22-year-old Shiva Shankar Das, who had been on the run following Chandrika Kumari’s murder, was found deceased last night, hanging in his hotel room adjacent to Nobel Hospital.

Shiva Shankar, purportedly Chandrika Kumari’s romantic partner, was found dead three days after Chandrika Kumari’s demise.

The hotel where Shiva Shankar took his life is approximately 300 meters southeast from the location where nurse Chandrika Kumari was murdered.

Chandrika, hailing from Siraha’s Phulkahkatti municipality, had been residing in a room at Dr. Dhirendra Giri’s residence on Biratnagar-4 Budhathoki Marga for two months.

Her lifeless body was discovered in the bathroom of the room she occupied, where she was brutally slained on Friday afternoon.

The nurse’s neck, face, and other body parts bore severe injuries inflicted by sharp weapons.

Chandrika Kumari fell victim to her lover Shiva Shankar’s heinous act, with law enforcement pursuing him.

SP Karki revealed that during the manhunt for Shiva Shankar, who had fled, he was found to have taken his own life.

“After identifying the murder suspect, our search efforts intensified. We also employed technical means. Meanwhile, Shiva Shankar’s phone signal led us to Kanchanbari in Biratnagar on Sunday afternoon,” SP Karki stated.

Reports indicate that Shiva Shankar and Chandrika Kumari had been romantically involved for four years.

Shiva Shankar had ventured to Malaysia for employment abroad.

During his absence, Chandrika Kumari engaged in a romantic liaison with Amin Dhanuk of CMA Siraha.

“It appears that Chandrika Kumari’s infidelity in love drove Shiva Shankar to commit this heinous act,” remarked a police investigator probing the incident.

Shiva Shankar returned to Kathmandu from Malaysia on March 10, subsequently arriving in Biratnagar on March 12.
