105 centers to roll out measles vaccination drive in Humla

321 health workers and volunteers have been deployed

KATHMANDU: Plans are underway for a vaccination campaign against measles and rubella in Humla district.

However, the recent snowfall posed significant challenges, disrupting the transportation of vaccines to two out of the 107 designated vaccination centers in the district.

Prem Bahadur Singh, Head of the Health Service Office, stated that due to logistical hurdles caused by the snowfall, vaccination efforts will be stalled at the Chala center of Namkha Rural Municipality-4 and the Limi center of Ward No. 6.

Despite having the vaccines ready, the inability to transport them to the designated health workers has forced a delay in these specific centers.

Singh assured that preparations are otherwise complete, with health workers and women health volunteers already mobilized and ready to commence operations soon.

The vaccination materials and invitation letters have been distributed to all other vaccination centers, ensuring a comprehensive and successful rollout.

Although the initial plan comprised 127 vaccination centers across seven rural municipalities, logistical constraints led to the reduction of centers to 107.

Nonetheless, 321 health workers and volunteers have been deployed, aiming to reach 6,212 children across the district.

Each vaccination center is equipped with one health worker and two health volunteers.

In collaboration with the Health Service Office and the Village Health Branch, vaccination centers have been strategically distributed across Namkha (15 centers), Simkot (20 centers), Kharpunath (14 centers), Sarkegaard (23 centers), Changkheli (12 centers), Adanchuli (12 centers), and Tanjakot (11 centers). Additionally, to address any emergencies during the vaccination process, one doctor has been assigned to visit two rural villages.
