KATHMANDU: Excitement is brewing as the 13th edition of the Nepal-EU Film Festival gears up to unfold in the capital starting this Wednesday.
Under the theme “50 years of EU-Nepal relations: celebrating cultural diversity,” the festival promises to showcase the rich tapestry of European culture, lifestyle, and cinematic brilliance to Nepali audiences, according to Dr. Joëlle Hivonnet, Deputy Head of the EU delegation for Nepal.
Scheduled to run from March 20 to 23, the festival will feature a total of nine European films and eleven Nepali short films. From the gripping drama of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ (Ireland) directed by Martin McDonagh to the heartwarming tale of ‘Tove’ (Finland) directed by Zaida Bergroth, the lineup promises an engaging cinematic experience for all.
On the Nepali front, audiences can look forward to a diverse range of films including ‘Dhye Dreams’ by Shanta Nepali, ‘Kathmandu Monsoon’ by Nigma Gelu Sherpa, and ‘Let’s Talk Period’ by Rajin Maharjan, among others.
Following its stint in Kathmandu, the festival will embark on a journey to the Sudurpaschim province, with screenings continuing at the Far Western University on April 10th and 11th. The festival will then move to Lumbini province on April 15th and culminate in the Karnali Province with screenings on April 19th and 20th.
Adding to the excitement, the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal is also organizing a ‘Film Critics Competition,’ offering aspiring critics the chance to win the prestigious ‘Film Critics Award’ for the best review.
