South Korea to expand job opportunities for Nepali migrant workers in additional sectors

KATHMANDU: In a significant development, South Korea has announced its intention to broaden job prospects for Nepali migrant laborers through the Employment Permit System (EPS) by introducing opportunities in three new sectors starting from 2024.

The Korean government’s initiative aims to extend employment opportunities to Nepali workers in the service sector, forest sector, and root industries.

Previously, Nepali migrant workers predominantly found employment in the agricultural, manufacturing, and shipbuilding sectors.

According to the EPS Korea section, the Korean government plans to increase the number of available seats by 13.2 compared to the previous year.

Dandu Raj Ghimire, Director-General at the EPS Korea Section, dismissed rumors suggesting a reduction in seat availability.
