PM Dahal prepares for Cabinet reshuffle ahead of parliamentary address

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has initiated preparations for a Cabinet reshuffle in anticipation of his address at the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) meeting.

Amidst disruptions from opposition parties, who are demanding the resignation of several ministers, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire has urged PM Dahal to address the opposition’s queries.

PM Dahal is scheduled to address the meeting accordingly on Monday.

In a significant meeting held recently between PM Dahal and Sher Bahadur Deuba, President of the Nepali Congress, the two leaders have reportedly agreed to undertake a Cabinet reshuffle.

As PM Dahal gears up for the reshuffle, the government is deliberating whether to overhaul the entire ministerial lineup or make selective replacements.

Three ministers, including Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala, Minister for Health and Population Mohan Basnet, and Tourism Minister Sudan Kirati, are under pressure to resign.

Minister Jwala has faced criticism for the tragic Balkumari incident, while Ministers Basnet and Kirati are embroiled in corruption allegations and grievances from various quarters.

Sources indicate that PM Dahal has granted Deuba a week to propose suitable candidates from the Nepali Congress for inclusion in the reshuffled Cabinet.
