Winter bids farewell as pre-monsoon takes over

KATHMANDU: Today marks the conclusion of the winter season, paving the way for the onset of pre-monsoon conditions, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

It has highlighted that the conclusion of the English month of February aligns with the conclusion of winter.

The winter season, spanning December, January, and February, transitions into pre-monsoon with the advent of March in Nepal, it said.

During the pre-monsoon phase, meteorologists anticipate clear mornings, followed by cloudy afternoons, culminating in evening rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds.

While the commencement may not be immediate, the weather is gradually progressing towards the pre-monsoon characteristics, it added.

Although the pre-monsoon period typically spans three months, it is deemed as such until the monsoon arrives.

In Nepal, the average onset of the monsoon, or rainy season, is around June 13th, signaling the transition from pre-monsoon conditions.

Meteorological data indicates that the monsoon lingers until approximately October 2nd in Nepal, at which point post-monsoon conditions prevail until November.
