KATHMANDU: The All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), affiliated with CPN-UML, is calling for the resignation of Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala.

During a demonstration in Kathmandu, ANNFSU members set fire to an effigy of Minister Jwala in front of Tri-Chandra Campus, Ghantaghar, Kathmandu.

This demand follows the government’s establishment of a commission to investigate the Balaju incident, which resulted in the loss of two lives.

The call for Minister Jwala’s resignation is based on the commission’s findings, holding him accountable and recommending necessary action.

In protest, students took to the streets, burning effigies not only of Minister Jwala but also of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

The incident dates back to December 29, when a dispute arose over the filling of exam forms at the EPS Korea Branch Office in Balkumari, Lalitpur.

During the protest, police fired shots, resulting in the tragic deaths of Birendra Shah from Achham and Sujan Rawat from Dailekh.

In the aftermath of the shooting incident that claimed two lives, the angry crowd also set fire to Minister Prakash Jwala’s vehicle upon its return from the office.

In response to the incident, the Ministry of Home Affairs established a committee chaired by former justice Shekhar Prasad Poudel, with former AIG Arun Kumar BC and Home Ministry Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai as members.
