Nepal an advocate for peace and equality: PM Dahal
Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that Nepal’s participation in UN peace operations has always remained an important component of its foreign policy, aimed at achieving and strengthening global peace and stability which has been well praised by the global society. “I feel extremely proud as I assert the fact that Nepal presently contributes the highest number of troops and police personnel in the United Nations Peacekeeping missions and has further pledged to deploy up to ten thousand well-trained and equipped personnel for UN Peace operations on request of the United Nations”, he said.
Nepal ‘A’ clinches victory against Canada XI in second one-day match
In the ongoing one-day series against Canada XI, Nepal ‘A’ secured a convincing victory in the second match, winning by two wickets. Chasing a target of 241 runs set by Canada XI at the Mulpani Cricket Ground, Nepal reached the goal with 8 wickets down and 49 balls to spare. Sandeep Jora and Basir Ahmad played crucial roles, both scoring half-centuries. With this win, the series is tied at 1-1 between Nepal ‘A’ and Canada XI. In the first match, Nepal suffered a defeat, losing by four wickets.

In a stern critique, former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML), KP Oli, lambasted the incumbent government, alleging a glaring absence of an agenda for the prosperity of the nation. Speaking at the central committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Tuesday, Oli asserted that the coalition government, led by CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ is solely focused on criticizing the main opposition party UML.
Corruption case filed against 19 individuals, including eight forest officers of Kapilvastu
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has lodged a corruption case against 19 individuals, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker and seven forest officers from Kapilvastu district, at the Special Court. The case has been brought forth on charges related to corruption and the unauthorized cutting down of forests beyond the limits stipulated by permission. Reportedly, the Gautam Buddha Collaborative Forest Management Committee is implicated in the unauthorized deforestation.
NEPSE records modest decline on Tuesday
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed a slight decline on Tuesday, the second trading day of the week. The Nepali stockmarket index dropped by 7.6 points, settling at 2,033.06 today. In today’s trading, a total of 9,342,546 shares of 314 companies were bought and sold, resulting in a business turnover of Rs 3,113,556000. The sub-indices of various groups show mixed performances.

The General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Bishwa Prakash Sharma, presented a contemporary political report in the central committee meeting, stating that the alternative to democracy can only be a prosperous democracy. Multinational military exercise ‘Shanti Prayas IV’ commences in Kathmandu
The multinational military exercise ‘Shanti Prayas IV’, comprising the army representatives from 19 countries participating in the United Nations Peace Keeping missions, has commenced in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, inaugurated the event in a program organized in the Nepali Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali, Kathmandu. The Nepali Army and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command are co-hosting the multinational Shanti Prayas Exercise to be executed at the Birendra Peace Operations Training Center in Nepal with over 1,125 participants from 19 countries from February 20 to March 4, 2024.
NC witnesses growing support for establishment of ‘Vedic Sanatan Hindu State’
Nepali Congress (NC) Mahasamiti meeting representatives have started showing keen interest in the campaign for Vedic Sanatan State launched by 22 central members including Shankar Upreti. According to sources, a significant 900 representatives have signed in favor of the establishment of a Hindu state in Nepal under the ‘Campaign for the Vedic Sanatan Hindu state.’ The signature campaign, organized in the premises of the Godawari-based Mahasamiti meeting venue, has garnered support from prominent figures like former General Secretary and Central Committee Member Dr. Shashank Koirala, and former Speaker Taranath Ranabhat.
Nepali nationals granted access to Indian SIM cards
Nepali citizens can now easily acquire Indian SIM cards, announced Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, Nepal’s Ambassador to India. This decision comes after the Indian government’s approval, responding to Nepal Embassy’s request. Eligible documents for obtaining the SIM include passport, citizenship certificate, voter’s ID, or embassy-issued identification. Previously, Nepali nationals faced restrictions, necessitating them to use SIM cards registered under Indian citizens.
