KATHMANDU: Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Kamal Thapa, has expressed concerns that the current federal system coupled with the republic is gradually transforming into a breeding ground for corruption and smuggling.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Monday to mark Tribhuvan Jayanti, Democracy Day, and RPP-Nepal’s anniversary, Chairman Thapa asserted that the secular, republican federal structure has proven to be a failure in the country, leading to a worrisome surge in corruption and smuggling activities.

Thapa pointed out that the involvement of leaders from major political parties in cases such as fake Bhutanese refugees and Lalita Niwas land indicates a trend of protecting their own interests.

He emphasized that the adoption of left-wing communist and socialist ideologies, which have proven unsuccessful globally, has taken an extreme turn in Nepali politics under Maoist leadership.

Expressing concern over the distorted political landscape, Thapa criticized the participation of various political parties with differing opinions, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), RPP along with Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, in Maoist Center’s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
