KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has highlighted the need to harness the immense potential generated by the federal democratic system and convert it into tangible opportunities.
In an address at the ceremony organized to celebrate National Democracy Day in Kathmandu’s Army Pavilion, Tundikhel on Monday, Prime Minister Dahal underscored the importance of laying a robust foundation for socialism while concurrently defending and fortifying the federal democratic republic.
Looking ahead to 2030, he expressed the goal of elevating Nepal from a least developed nation to a developing one, emphasizing the nation’s responsibility to achieve qualitative growth in the gross domestic product.
“The traditional development model will undergo scrutiny, with a renewed focus on production and job creation,” the Prime Minister said.
He outlined plans to curb intellectual migration by generating ample employment opportunities, thereby instilling hope and breaking Nepal free from the perpetual cycle of poverty.
Asserting that democracy forms the bedrock for political, economic, social, and cultural advancement by amplifying public interests, Prime Minister Dahal conveyed his conviction that the democratic system, wherein people elect and send representatives to govern, provides the groundwork for progressive development within the state.
Highlighting advanced democracy as the sole alternative, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized that overcoming the limitations and weaknesses of the current system is achievable only from within.
He stated, “The foundation of socialism can be laid only through the fortification of a democratic republic, institutional development, effective implementation of federalism, and active citizen participation in state management.”
In addressing the continuous development and sustainability of democracy, Prime Minister Dahal underscored the necessity for public awareness and adoption.
He contended that a society founded on public interest and welfare can be constructed through adherence to the rule of law, values, human rights recognition, gender equality, proportional inclusion, participation, and social justice.
