Balkumari incident: PM Dahal assures action

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” on Sunday addressed concerns surrounding the incident in Balkumari, Lalitpur, on December 29, 2023, where two youths lost their lives.

During a parliamentary session on Sunday, Prime Minister Dahal assured that appropriate action would be taken upon reviewing the report from the commission of inquiry into the incident.

Responding to queries from parliamentarians, Prime Minister Dahal disclosed that he had not yet examined the report submitted by the High-Level Inquiry Commission.

He emphasized that further action would be initiated promptly after scrutinizing the report.

In Sunday’s parliamentary session, the main opposition parties, CPN-UML, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), called for the resignation of Physical Planning Minister Prakash Jwala.

The Commission of Inquiry had earlier submitted its findings to the Home Ministry, attributing the incident to Minister Jwala.

Prime Minister Dahal clarified that the commission, which was not established by the opposition but rather initiated based on his proposal, had presented the report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday.

As of his statement, he had not received the report himself but affirmed his commitment to studying it promptly.

“As the Prime Minister, I have not seen that report; I am getting it today. After going through the report, action will be taken against the culprits,” Prime Minister Dahal asserted.
