ICC World Cup League-2: Nepal set to compete against Netherlands today



KATHMANDU: Under the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2 (2023-2027) series, Nepal is poised to face the Netherlands in their second match today.

Having suffered a defeat by four wickets against Namibia in their opening match, Nepal is eager to secure their first victory in the tournament.

The Netherlands, having also played their first match in the World Cup, bring a high morale to the field.

Nepal aims to leverage home ground advantage as the match kicks off at 9:15 am on Saturday at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

The process of selection for the Cricket World Cup scheduled in 2027 has commenced in Kathmandu under the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2.

Notably, Anil and Dev, who delivered outstanding performances in the One-Day International series against Canada, are part of the League-2 squad.

Nepal’s League-2 squad includes all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee, Karan KC, and Gulshan Jha.

Leading the team in the League-2 series are Rohit Paudel as captain, with Asif Sheikh, Dev Khanal, Anil Shah, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Pawan Sarraf, Bhim Sarki, Dipendra Singh Airee, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi, and Surya Tamang.

According to ICC regulations, the top four teams in League-2 will qualify for the Cricket World Cup, while the remaining four will have a chance in the World Cup Qualifier.

Nepal, along with seven other nations, including the Netherlands, Namibia, Canada, Oman, Scotland, UAE, and the USA, is part of this competitive League-2.
